AHP Alpha TIG 201xd Torch Upgrade!
While I actually did this upgrade back in April, I just barely finished the video I filmed for it a week or so ago. I’ll admit I’m at the infancy of figuring out video content and some parts are for sure a little cringe worthy, but I find there’s really no better delivery method than video these days. If they say a picture is worth a 1000 words than a video must be worth the equivalent of the US National Debt (which at the time I’m writing this is 27,187,279,180,850) in words. So I figured what better way to follow up on the critically acclaimed Butt Checker Video than an instructional/informational video on my TIG Torch upgrade for the AHP Alpha TIG 201xd TIG Welder. The other part of the motivation was the fact that it actually took me quite a bit of digging to find all the information I needed. So, if you’ve ever heard the saying “if you have a problem, someone else probably does too” then you’ll know why I tried to pay it back a bit.
Anyways, grab some popcorn (or whichever other cinematic snack you prefer), sit back, get comfy and come with me on this journey of improving my joinery apparatus. Without further ado…
Here’s a list of all the parts I bought to complete this upgrade
Some additional notes on the upgrade:
I’ve since moved to a 1/16” Diameter Tungsten. I’ve found that it really helps me control heat and puddle size. The additional parts needed for this are listed below.
Since making the video, I’ve replaced the Tubular webbing once and I actually found a much simpler way to do it than the wire snake. If you have a long hallway lay the webbing out completely flat and then simply shove the TIG hose through from one end. It’s slippery enough it glides right through with some umpf.
PS: If you are like me and find yourself interested in the history of why popcorn is the #1 cinematic snack after that joke up there ^. I found a pretty good write up on the subject here.
PPS: If you are reading this many years later and we are still in CoVID lockdown and you aren’t sure what a movie theater is, here is a lovely Wikipedia article.
